Introduction

IOSSKA-NZ had a modest beginning in Auckland in 2003. A permanent Dojo was started in the Newton Central School Hall on all Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6 and 7 p.m. during School terms. Due to a steady growth another Dojo was started on Mondays and Wednesdays, in the Moire Road Community Hall, Massey East, West Auckland, in February, 2006.

The aim of IOSSKA-NZ is to propogate and spread the Philosophy ofTraditional Karate-do through scientific instruction of the artistic talents of the Okinawan System of Karate and the Seibukan methodology.

Our founding father, O'Sensei Zenryo Shimabukuro had once said: "Karate is a lifetime practise for a person. Karate training is comperable to the boiling of water over fire. Once the fire ceases to burn, the water starts to get cold. Karate is not only for the strong. It is particularly suitable for the weak and the handicapped, so that through Karate training they can overcome any shortcoming. Physical strength alone is not true karate. Sincerity of the heart and determination of the mind will give a person superiority in karate.

The Association beleives that:
"Without Tradition there is no Root,
without Standards there is no Value,
without Discipline there is no Order."

Our focus is to develop the mind and body simultaneously to increase concentration and strength and confidence.
