Kickstart, Term 1, 2008

Happy New Year!!!

Welcome to term 1 and our first ever edition of KICKSTART. I hope you have all had a relaxing and enjoyable break. I love this time of the year, Its a time of change - throwing out the old & bringing in the new. This is exactly what has lead to our new and improved e-newsletter, KICKSTART. We have been very busy here at IOSSKA-NZ headquarters trying to create a successful and rewarding 2008 for all of you. Actually, I think its a time for setting new life goals, which I write down & want so badly to keep, but fail to do. Now I know you all know what I'm taking about. I have seen many statistics, which show that by February about 90% of our resolutions seem to fall to pieces but this year, I have an idea instead of setting resoultions I'm resorting to guidelines, which I'm going to try and follow throught the year to help me portray the best version of me.

Enjoy this new and improved e-newsletter, keep the perspectives, jokes and stories coming in. Its great hearing about you all.

Remember to KICKSTART this year with a bang!!!

1. Karate begins with courtesy and ends with courtesy.

2. There is no first attack in karate.

4. First control yourself before attempting to control others.

5. Spirit first, technique second.

6. Always be ready to release your mind.

7. Accidents arise from neglect.

8. Do not think that Karate training is only in the dojo.

9. It will take your entire life to learn Karate; there is no limit.

10. Put your everyday living into Karate and you will find Myo (The subtle secrets!).

11. Karate is like boiling water. If you do not heat it constantly, it will cool.

12. Do not think that you have to win, think rather that you do not have to lose.

13. Victory depends on your ability to distinguish vulnerable points from invulnerable ones.

14. The battle is according to how you move guarded and unguarded (move according to your opponent!).

15. Think of your hands and feet as swords.

16. When you leave home, think that you have numerous opponents waiting for you.

17. It is your behaviour that invites trouble from them.

18. Beginners must master low stance and posture; natural body positions are for the advanced.

19. Practicing a Kata is one thing, engaging in a real fight is another.

20. Do not forget to correctly apply: strength and weakness of power, stretching
and contraction of the body and slowness and speed of techniques.

Always think and devise to live the precept every day.

As you are all aware we are having our second general body meeting on 1st March 2008, where discussions will take place about the growth and success of IOSSKA-NZ (look out for the agenda two weeks before) I strongly encourage you all to attend.  After this meeting there will be a BBQ and you are all invited to stay. Please bring a plate and RSVP, asap.
